  12. OBTAINING SOFTWARE UPDATES AND ADDITIONS

  15. As with all software, the programs you'll find on this disc are
  16. subject to periodic updates, bug-fixes and other revisions.
  17. Moreover, in some cases, we were unable to secure permission to
  18. include some programs and utilities on the CD-ROM that we otherwise
  19. would have liked to include.
  20.  
  21. To provide a more complete resource for readers of this book, and to
  22. aid you in finding updates or revisions when they are made
  23. available, the author will be launching three facilities you are
  24. welcome to use at any point during the normal lifetime of this book.
  25. These resources are:

  27. World Wide Web
  28.  
  29.     The author's World Wide Web server will provide new and updated
  30.     files and information. If you have full Internet access, use
  31.     your web browser, and open the URL:

  35.     Follow the instructions shown on the screen to visit the
  36.     appropriate sections of the web site.

  38. File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
  39.  
  40.     The author's FTP site is the storage location for any updated or
  41.     new files. While you should use the World Wide Web to access
  42.     these files, if you have Internet access but don't have a web
  43.     browser available, you can FTP direct to the file update
  44.     sections. The domain name of the FTP site is:

  46.         ftp.bryant.com
  47.  
  48.     Displays on the site and information files posted there will
  49.     give further details on how to access the updates.

  51. Bulletin Board System
  52.  
  53.     For those without any Internet access, you can dial the author's
  54.     BBS at (303) 733-0773, where file areas will be maintained with
  55.     updates and additions. There are other file areas available
  56.     there that may be of interest as well.

  61. USING THE FILES ON THIS DISC
  62. ----------------------------

  64. All the files on this CD-ROM have been archived and compressed
  65. using PKZIP. You will need the program PKUNZIP to decompress the
  66. files and break them back out into their individual components.
  67. Since most sysops have PKUNZIP already and know how to use it,
  68. we've not included it alone on the disc.
  69.  
  70. If you don't happen to have PKUNZIP, the complete PKZIP/PKUNZIP
  71. distribution is included. It's stored on the disc as:
  72.  
  73.     \TOOLS\PKZ204G.EXE
  74.  
  75. To use it, create a temporary directory on your hard disk, and
  76. change to that directory. Then, simply run the program direct from
  77. the CD-ROM. For example, if your CD-ROM drive is disk E:, from the
  78. temporary directory on your hard disk, you'd type:

  80.     E:\TOOLS\PKZ204G.EXE
  81.  
  82. Follow the instructions displayed on your screen. In your temporary
  83. directory, you'll find a copy of PKUNZIP, as well as documentation
  84. files on how to use the PKZIP/PKUNZIP system.

  86. PKZIP and PKUNZIP are shareware. Please make sure you're a
  87. registered user of these popular and valuable products; instructions
  88. on how to register can be found in its documentation.
